Jeri Rowe , a columnist at Warren Buffett’s Greensboro News & Record, told his readers this morning that he’s leaving the paper after 25 years to become senior writer at High Point University.
But this time, it was different. With this position, I saw a future beyond daily deadlines. But more importantly, it was a chance to earn a paycheck that would help my two children with the rising cost of college.
He says “it s been the toughest decision I ve made in my professional life,” and that “I ll always have ink in my veins” [but] “I have to provide for my family, broadway shoes and I have to provide for me.”

We at the N&R haven’t had raises in eight years. It’s tough. Information these days comes at us like water through a firehose, and newspapers need to think hard how to differentiate itself from so many sources of information. One way, I always thought, was through telling stories that you can’t find anywhere else. That’s what I did for years, broadway shoes and I believe it paid off for the newspaper. CP/M Source Code Released
To celebrate the 40th anniversary of CP/M, the Computer History Museum has released a package containing early source code for several bridal veils versions of CP/M. Originally bridal veils designed by [Gary Kildall] bridal veils in 1973, Control Program for Microcomputers (CP/M) is an early operating system for microprocessor based computers. The OS was originally written for the Intel Intellec 8 , an Intel 8008 based computer. Since it was on an Intel machine, CP/M was written in PL/M (Programming Language for Microcomputers), a language [Kildall] had previously developed for Intel .
CP/M pioneered the idea of a ROM based Basic Input Output/System (BIOS) for commonly used routines on a given computer. The use of BIOS made CP/M easy to port. Eventually bridal veils it was ported to thousands of different machines and architectures, including the Altair, IMSAI 8080, C-64, and C-128 and Apple II systems.
Gary and his company Digital Research , were one of the top contenders bridal veils for the operating system on IBM’s new personal computer. Ultimately, Microsoft got the job by purchasing 86-DOS from Seattle Computer Products. Somewhat ironically, 86-DOS itself was written based on the CP/M Application Programming interface (API).
The source itself is an amazing trip back in time. Included are portions of CP/M 1.1, 1.3, 1.4, and 2.0. Portions of CP/M have been released previously. As with the previous files, this version includes modifications performed by z80-pack author [Udo Munk] in 2007. Version 1.3 is especially interesting as it is primarily scanned copies of the CP/M source code.

Wow this brings back memories. My first DIY computer was an 8008 I designed and built myself. Then I got a Z80 and put on CPM as my first real operating system. It was a good step for all of us in those days, today’s computers are so much more powerful.

Nope. bridal veils The “too busy flying his plane” crap was microsoft doing what China and Russia call ‘official information’. bridal veils It was spun by microsoft to make Gary look bad, but never really happened. As it was, IBM took microsofts quick and dirty operating system, which was 8000 lines of assembly, and then fixed 5000 bugs, and gave it back to microsoft. All IBM needed was someone to avoid anti-combine legislation. Too bad the feds never went after microsoft like that.
The way I understand it, is that the IBM people went on a mission to talk to Kildall about getting an OS and to Microsoft to get Basic, all in the same day (or in a few short days) some time in 1980 or so.

Whether he forgot about the meeting, or couldn’t make it because of circumstances out of his control, or whether it was just utter contempt for IBM is not clear. IBM certainly didn’t tell DR what the meeting was all about, no-one had any idea that they were working on a PC and IBM had always made their own hardware and software so far (the PC was the first project to use off-the-shelf bridal veils components), so maybe the folks at DR thought bridal veils that IBM was just there to spy on them and see how things were done, and then take them out of business.

The figure is well below a $125 million threshold that would contractually allow Apple to recoup the approximately $440 million already advanced to GT in support of ramping up sapphire production at a dedicated factory in Mesa, Ariz. Apple's reasoning may be unclear at this time, but more details are expected meltin pot to surface as GT's bankruptcy process progresses in the coming weeks. It was revealed in November of last year that GT Advanced won a $578 million deal to supply sapphire material to Apple for use in unannounced products. Apple probably set a really high bar for quality and GT couldn't meet it. They are probably able to product sufficient screens, just not ones that pass Apple's quality requirements. Sucks to be them (or their equipment suppliers).
Does Apple have a second source for sapphire? Would the camera cover and TouchID cover affected? I hope Apple is not backed into a corner meltin pot just like years ago with the SoC solely manufactured by Samsung.

Or looking meltin pot at this from a similar but slightly different angle, Apple may have realized realized that the cash it had already given GT wasn't going to pay off. It's trite but true in that case: Why throw good money after bad?

Veterans Need Employment, Jobvite’s Apps For Heroes baby showers Helps Them Find It
Jobvite a recruitment platform visited by more than 35 million people baby showers in the last year, which lets companies post job openings baby showers and then disseminate and monitor how those job vacancy alerts perform across other sites and recruitment services is today announcing that it has raised another $25 million. We see recruitment the way a marketing department today views marketing baby showers services, he told TechCrunch in an interview. The idea has picked up a decent amount of traction so far: Jobvite says it counts more than 1,600 companies as paying customers, including Starbucks, Twitter, Farmers Insurance, and nine of the last 11 top tech IPOs.
This is a Series D round that takes the total raised by Jobvite baby showers to $55.5 million . Led by Catalyst Investors, this round had participation from existing investors CMEA, ATA Ventures and Trident Capital essentially the three lead investors from Jobvite s previous three rounds.
In addition to 35 million visitors in the last year, the company has processed more than 30 million job applications since first opening for business in 2003. Among its business customers in other words, the ones that pay Jobvite for its services Finnigan notes that the revenue that it collects from individual customers based on its software-as-a-service baby showers framework is significantly higher than what we spend acquiring those customers.
He also notes that the company has very low churn. Smart is barely a car company yet.
The CLA and GLA are solutions to both problems. With starting prices that promise a Mercedes near $30,000 realistically average transaction prices for both should be solidly in the mid-to-upper $30k range it's both a volume play and a way to get people into the brand so they commit to Mercedes for life. Neither are likely to be hugely profitable in the way an S-Class or a GL is, but that's not the point.
I had a pleasant discussion with a pleasant German motherhood maternity product planner for Germany who seemed genuinely displeased and even a little shocked when I dared to call the GLA a "crossover." It's not a crossover, it's an "SUV" she insisted. This, of course, sounds like nonsense. Yes, they've done a little work on the suspension and added hill descent and a chrome skid plate and raised the CLA a little bit to accomodate soft roading. Some of this breaks down into semantics as SUV is, itself, a nonsense descriptor. But some of it is just the truth. No reasonable person would look at a GLA and see anything but a crossover, so why even add hill descent control? Why does Mercedes need to convince itself it's an SUV? Why does it need to convince other people so badly they go out of their way not to use the "C-word" in mixed company?
The AMG version, on the surface, seems even more like propaganda. We found the CLA45 AMG to be fast and fun and reasonably competent on the track , but nothing particularly mindblowing. motherhood maternity Making it slightly bigger, adding a hatch and calling it an SUV shouldn't make it better.

So is the GLA45 a WRX STI? Nope. For one, you can actually get the GLA45 with a hatchback (ZING!) and while the WRX STI is sharper, and more track-focused like a katana the GLA45 AMG is a strange mixture of muscle and utility, like an alcantara-handled chainsaw with a laser pointer glued on top. It's just freaking weird.
Let's start with the aesthetics. You can go subtle and get a brown one with none of the wings or aero that make it so obvious there's power lurking underneath. No one would suspect you're going to run a sub-5.0 jaunt to 60 mph until the dude in the Camaro hears the rompy burble of your exhaust as you pull away towards the farmer's market, or the antique shop, or wherever the hell people who would buy this would go.
Inside, the car is festooned with enough microsuede to cover six fake cows, but it's otherwise similar to the CLA45 in its carbon motherhood maternity fiber touches and general comfort. I don't love it, but it's not a terrible place to be. The seats are supportive and the view over the hood is enticing thanks motherhood maternity to the distinct power bulges. I'm Developing A Serious Racing Wheel Problem
Late last night, during my fourth day of playing Forza Horizon stefanis 2 with Mad Catz' Xbox One Pro Racing Wheel, I began to wonder if force feedback in my hands was enough. Why isn't my chair shaking? Shouldn't I feel the vibrations of the road beneath my feet? Oh no.
It's been ages since I've played around with a real mount-to-the-table racing wheel. I'd imagine that had I been incredibly impressed with the ones I've tried before, I'd still have one set up today. But alas, while I love my racing games, I've never felt I was good enough at them to warrant the purchase of something like a $400 racing wheel . I should have taken the chance sooner.
For after struggling for the first hour or so with Mad Catz' aluminium and suede beast, something stefanis clicked. Something also rumbled and rattled, but the clicking it was a very profound sort of clicking. A clicking of slightly misshapen puzzle pieces finally clicking into place. The problem wasn't my skill. I just couldn't connect driving a car with flicking sticks on a game pad. This, on the other freakishly large hand...

Leaning back in my green high-backed stefanis Ikea desk chair, gripping the wheel with two hands as I barreled through the Forza Horizon 2 wilderness I'm an excellent driver in real life, and suddenly I was a rather okay driver in this virtual Europe.
To anyone else that's played a racing game for more than 15 minutes, there's nothign special about this clip. Just a guy out on the road, racing against jets. The usual. For me, however, this clip is one of my fondest achievements. I did not hit the wall once. I did not spin out on the grass. I followed my racing line with something akin to confidence, and I triumphed.
Now I drive through the European countryside one-handed, charging over hilltops and weaving between trees like a giant bumblebee. I went ahead and spent the $25 Microsoft store credit I've been holding onto for several months on the Forza Horizon 2 Car Pass, for I've the sudden urge to race all of the vehicles. I'm in love with racing again.
Now I'm not saying the Mad Catz Xbox One Pro Racing Wheel is some sort of magical device. It's a solid piece of equipment, able to withstand the massive amount of pressure my ridiculous legs can put on a plastic and metal pedal assembly. Its suede steering wheel cover just comfortable enough to keep my hands gripping it long enough to change my mind. And thank goodness the steering column can be adjusted upward. There's even a switch on the back to switch between 900 and 270 degrees of rotation.
It's not without its issues, however. stefanis The force feedback is very rumbly and loud, especially in a game with off-road driving like Forza Horizon 2 . There are two sets of aluminum pedals on either side of the steering wheel, but the lower two have no function and cannot have a function mapped to them hopefully support for those can be patched in (they do nothing in Forza 5 either). The wheel is relatively small as well only about ten inches in diameter. It's still a good firm grip with two hands, but I feel my gargantuan paws aching for something larger.
And then there's the price tag. I usually don't quibble over price, but $400 is a lot to spend on what's at the moment the only game in town. And it's even worse now that I feel the uncontrollable urge to by a racing seat to mount this to.
